Insurgent, the second movie to the Divergent trilogy, is an action filled exciting adventure that captivates the audience. On March 20, Insurgent, directed by Robert Schwentke, came to the theatre.

The leaders of the former Chicago keep their people in the dark on what the creators of their society wanted. Those who know what is happening fight back, such as a selected group of people including Beatrice Prior (also known as Tris) played by Shailene Woodley and Four played by Theo James.

Tris is trying to protect herself and the people she loves. Tris and Four (her partner in crime), face one challenge after another, testing their relationship and their lives. As their pasts unwind and secrets unravel, they realize how many sacrifices they truly have to make.

“Seeing Beatrice confront her demons, it was really powerful. She is independent but then has Four always by her side. Watching them together and fight for one another not against one another was really emotional,” senior Breanna Malave said.

This alliance that Tris fights against is tearing her society apart. Each faction, (Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, and Candor) all have divergents. Divergents are the ones who belong to too many factions. In fact, Tris belongs to all factions. The Erudite leader, Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Winslet is trying to take them down.

The roller coaster of trust, betrayal and self reliance keeps the audience on edge. Tris and Four have a harder time trying to figure out who to trust and realize that some people can not be trusted. Fighting back against Jeanine, Tris thinks it’s better to fight her on her own. However, she soon realizes sometimes its okay to receive help.

“By the time the movie ended, my mouth dropped. I was utterly shocked, although it was similar to the book, a lot was different which added to the suspense,” moviegoer Joshua Parks said.
